Annette Marie Scates was born November 13, 1962, to Carolyn Scates and Melvin Robinson in Kansas City, Missouri.  She was preceded in death by both parents; grandmothers, Mary Lee Scates and Ada Allen; sisters, Jacqueline and Sevillia Scates; granddaughter, Lakeisha Roberson. Annette departed this life on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.

Annette grew up in the Kansas City area, attending Bancroft Elementary, Westport Junior High and Westport High School graduating in 1981, going on to attend Penn Valley Community College to become a Dental Assistant.

Annette began working as a Dental assistant at Wayne Minor Health Center, later in 1984, she began her career with The Internal Revenue Services and continued there until she retired in 2018, after 34 years of service.

Annette lived a life of love, joy, laughter and enjoying family road trips. She also has had the opportunity to travel outside of the country visiting Africa and Australia.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Michael T. Cummings, Jr. of the home; one daughter, Kerneishia Kyle of Independence, MO; three grandchildren, Paula Turner, Zavion Kyle and Kamille Kyle; two sisters, Katherine and Delores Scates; brother, Derrick Scates; nieces, Kryshonda Macedon, Chantel Porter, Keyonna (Michael) Hassam, Deidra Porter, and Sevillia Goldston all of Kansas City and a host of great nieces, nephews, other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
