April Yelette Strong's Obituary
April Yelette McBride was born April 1, 1966, in Kansas City, MO. She gave her life to Christ at the age of 12 years old believing in Jesus Christ Death, Burial, and Resurrection. April went to J.J. Pershing Elementary, Southeast Middle and eventually graduated from Southeast High School with honors in the year of 1984. During her senior year, she was a debutant for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. During this time, she won an award for leadership. She moved on to receive her Masters in Journalism and graduated with honors at Texas Southern University. During this time of college she met the love of her life, Verbert Adolph Strong. They married on November 7, 1992.
While attending college she worked for Meridian Oil. After college, April went on to work for AT&T as a call center manager for 4 years. She then moved onto Hallmark as the Quality Control Manager for 20 years. She retired from this company in 2017. April and Adolph took this opportunity to relocate to Atlanta and enjoy the new phase of their life. While in Atlanta they were able to truly enjoy their union while substituting and serving in her new church home, Grace Baptist Church, in her spare time.
April, was homegrown at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church
,
and you better believe she was no pew warmer. Amongst several things, April, was a part of the choir, mission board, member of the New Era District youth department and won "The Rose of Greenwood" in the Wedding of the Red Roses. While pursuing the Lord, April found her favor and married Adolph Strong. Thus, joining Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. There April was a Sunday School Teacher and served young girls through Woman's Missionary Union and Baptist young women.
Continuing to follow the Lord, April accepted the assignment to support her husband in his leadership as pastor of Capernaum Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ
.
While, at Capernaum April stepped up to the charge from serving on the usher board to teaching Sunday school. In addition, she also founded the Woman of Worship Conference (WOW), dedicated to inspiring and encouraging women who have dealt with cancer or know someone who has. Originally designed for Capernaum, the WOW Conference has grown to several churches coming together every October to celebrate, mourn and heal as sisters in Christ! Whatever her husband needed, she was ready to serve as long as the Lord was in the plan. Turns out God had one last assignment for her and Atlanta was their next destination.
While in Atlanta, April was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church

She worked heavily with the youth department serving as a teacher, summer camp administrator and Project YES: Community Development. Anywhere God sent her, she served and anywhere she served, God blessed.
She was daughter, sister, aunt, mentor, confidant and cousin to so many people. The job she shined the most at was being an aunt. If you need to talk, you knew she was going to keep it real. She never gave the advice you wanted to hear but what you needed to hear and always ask "Did you talk to God about it?" She poured so much into her nieces and nephews. From traveling to graduations, picking up those midnight calls, speaking life over them, praying with them, opened up her house for whatever they needed (as long as they followed the rules in her "rule book"). Not only was April close to her immediate family, she also poured into extended family. For many years she served as the Kansas City Leader for the Williams Family reunion. Within the reunion she founded The Williams Family Reunion School Fund and has poured into the next generation to move her legacy forward.
April left behind her parents, Deacon William and Ella McBride and Ruthie Mae Strong; siblings, William McBride Jr. (Brandy), Theresa Shelby (Albert, Jr.), Freddie Strong (Opal), Eugene Strong, Wilbert Strong, Robert Strong (Caroline), Dennis D. Strong, Gary A. Strong, Ivar J. Strong, Florastine Mcginnis, Joyce Strong (Roger Swope), Ann Lacey (Herman Lacey), Mae Strong, and Beverly Strong and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Strong were held Monday, September 24, 2018 at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Burial XII Gates Memorial Gardens.
