With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Arnold "Ralph" Brown , affectionately known as "Arnold", "ARB", "Daddy", 'PaPa", "Ralph", "Capt.", and "Brother Brown", who was called home by his Heavenly Father on July 13, 2026.

Arnold was born on November 11, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late David Brown, Sr. and Lucille Belle White Brown. He was the second of five children born to this union. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Brown, Jr., and his sisters, Gloria, Clarissa, and Barbara.

Arnold received his education in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District. He attended R.T. Coles Vocational School, where he studied Brick Masonry for two years before graduating from Lincoln High School in 1955. Determined to master his craft, he enrolled at Moler Barber College, earning his Barber License in 1955.

Arnold began his barbering career at Jones Barbershop, where he worked until 1956. He later joined Maupin's Barber Shop, faithfully serving clients until 1966. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for excellence led him to establish Sportsmen House of Coiffures in 1967, a business that would become a cornerstone of the Kansas City community.

Known for his precision, creativity, and unforgettable personality, Arnold's chair welcomed generations of loyal customers. His famous saying after completing a flawless haircut was, "The pencil broke-that's all she wrote!" His barbershop became much more than a place for haircuts; it was a gathering place where friendships flourished, stories were shared, and community was built. Professional athletes from the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Kings, along with countless civic leaders and lifelong patrons, sought not only his exceptional skills but also his friendship. In appreciation for his unwavering support and relationships, Arnold was blessed with opportunities to attend the Super Bowls, Pro Bowls, and NCAA Final Four celebrations.

While building a successful business, Arnold also dedicated himself to public service. In 1960, he began his distinguished career with the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department as a firefighter. Through hard work, perseverance, and outstanding leadership, he rose through the ranks and retired as a Captain in 1987 after 27 years of honorable service.

Never content to simply enjoy personal success, Arnold became a trailblazer for others. He founded the Kansas City, Missouri Black Professional Firefighters, helping open doors for future generations of African American firefighters. Through his leadership, the organization provided generous financial support, beautiful floral tributes, and compassionate assistance to the families of retired firefighters, ensuring that the sacrifices of these heroes would never be forgotten.

Arnold's influence extended far beyond the barber chair and the firehouse. He was a respected community leader, mentor, advocate and man of unwavering integrity. Throughout his life, he received numerous awards and honors recognizing his leadership, service, courage and determination in overcoming barriers while creating opportunities for others.

Above all Arnold was a devoted man of God and a follower of Jesus Christ. From childhood. he became acquainted with the Holy Scriptures. He was a member of the Baptist Training Union. Later in life he was taught and baptized by his son Minister Keith Brown. During his illness, they forged a permanent student-teacher relationship that lasted until the evening before his transition. His faith guided every aspect of his life and inspired him to serve others with humility, compassion and love. Whether he was known as"Daddy","PaPa" "Brother Brown","Capt","ARB", or simply "Ralph", He made every person he encountered feel valued, encouraged and respected. Although our hearts mourn his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Arnold has received his heavenly reward. His legacy of faith, excellence, service and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

Arnold's life was a testimony of perseverance, service, leadership and unwavering faith. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow firefighters, church family, patrons and the countless lives he touched. Well done, good and faithful servant.

Arnold "Ralph" Brown leaves to cherish his precious memories to his devoted and dedicated wife of forty years, Carmen K. Weatherspoon; his loving children, Carmen Woods, Keith Brown, Vernae' Redmond, and Chavae' Brown, and adopted son Charlie Elder; He was a proud patriarch 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Arnold also leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, extended family members, dear loved ones and faithful friends who will forever treasure his love, wisdom, kindness, and lasting impact he made on their lives. Though he has departed this earthly life, his legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all that knew and loved him.
