Author Lee Hazel Clark often pronounced together as Authorlee was born on May 13, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas in the portion known as the "Westside" She was the daughter of Frank Broner Sr., and Leanna (Jones) Broner. She was the first of three children born to this union.  Her parents and siblings Frank Broner Jr. and Carolyn (Broner) White preceded her in death.  She told stories of riding the streetcar in Kansas City and bared witness to the great flood of 1952.   She attended Kansas City Schools and graduated from Lincoln/ R.T. Coles High School in 1956.  She met her husband Cornelius Clark, Jr (deceased) on a hill in a Kansas City park.  While he was sitting on a swing, she told him to get off because she wanted to swing.  They married on November 28, 1959.  To this union, they had two children Glenda (Clark) Johnson and Tracy Clark and resided in Kansas City, Missouri until her death.

She attended Greystone Baptist Church and attended BTU and Sunday School.  She joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in 1980, where she was a member of the Senior Usher Board remained a member until her death.   She believed in prayer and would call on the Lord often.  Her favorite service was the 6:30 am service.

Author Lee worked at Western Electric until 1967.  She attended Penn Valley Community College and became a Para-Professional with the KCMO School District.  She worked in the Kindergarten class at Woodland Elementary and later joined the Head Start Program and worked at Faxon and Fairmount Elementary Schools.  She retired from the KCMO School District in 2003. She loved education and was passionate about the school system.  Of her most proud moments, was when her granddaughters graduated from college this year.

She was a member of the Sheraton Estates Neighborhood Association and worked to improve the neighborhood and its initiatives.  She would speak with her neighbors to get them involved in the neighborhood effort.  She loved to plant flowers on the exterior of her home to keep it nice and add to the neighborhood.  She was a staunch Democrat and voted in most every election.  She would call her children early in the morning to make sure that they voted. Of course, her favorite president was Barak Obama.

Author Lee loved Black History.  She was an avid scholar on Black History, Slavery, and Black Folklore.  She often spoke to others about slave ships and the atrocities that occurred.  Pictures of famous black people donned her walls, W.E. Dubois, Frederick Douglass, and others. She had many books on Black History.  She loved African art and jewelry and wore many pieces as part of her daily wardrobe.

Christmas was her favorite holiday!  She was excited giving gifts to her family and Christmas celebrations.  She always decorated her home for Christmas and made sure her son and grandson decorated the outside of her home with reindeer, Santa's and lights.

Author Clark leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Glenda (Clark) Johnson (Leonard), Son, Tracy Clark (Evelyn), her grandson Maurice Clark (Desiree), her granddaughters Ashley Johnson and Ashton Johnson, her great-grandson, Tyren Clark, Kansas City, MO, her nieces, Evelyn Cooper, Lenexa, KS, Erica (Broner) Smith, Oklahoma City, OK, Vicki Broner, Austin, TX, Tiffany Samilton- Robertson, Wetumka, OK, LaFaye Samilton, Wetumka, OK, Marsha White, Dallas, TX, Danika White, Dallas, TX, Derrick White, Salt Lake City, UT, her great-nieces Bridgette Cooper, Lenexa, KS, Tish Cooper, Lenexa, KS, Anshanette Hawkins, Kansas City, MO, her great-nephew, Edmond Surrat, Pittsburg, PA, one great-great niece Anshanette Hawkins, Kansas City, MO, one great-great Nephew Eddie Surrat, Kansas City, MO, the Bronner Family and a whole host of cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11:00AM at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ, 3619 East 35th Street, Kansas City, MO 64128.  Visitation 9AM.  Internment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery 2640 Blue Ridge Blvd, KCMO 64129.
