Barbara Delores Johnson, affectionally known as "Bobbie", was born April 13, 1932, in Watonga, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of two daughters by her mother, Geneva Cade and father, Theodore Dalton. Both of her parents preceded her in death.

Additionally, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Garnell Johnson; sister, Clara Miller; two daughters, Chaneta Johnson and Patricia Golightly; grandson, Jeffrey Johnson; nephew, Herbert L. Dalton Sr.; sister-in-law Ella Logan and brother-in-law Howard Miller.

After moving from Oklahoma to Kansas City, Missouri, Barbara received her education in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She attended Attucks Elementary, R.T Coles and Lincoln High School. She later devoted her life and career to serving young children in the Kansas City metro area. Barbara spent decades working in the early childhood sector. She spent most of her years working at George Washington Carver Child Development Center. During her tenure at George Washington Carver, she also received credentials from the High Scope Educational Research Foundation. She would eventually end her career working at Thomas Roque Head Start before retirement.

After retirement, Barbara continued to serve in the early childhood sector. She began volunteering with the Foster Grandparent Program for several years. In 2007, she was recognized for her service with the Foster Grandparent Program by receiving the City of Kansas City's Unsung Hero Award for "shaping the world one child at a time." Barbara was also issued a proclamation from Mayor Mark Funkhouser for her volunteerism during International Volunteer Day, recognized annually on December 6 ^th . After Barbara's service was completed with the Foster Grandparent Program, you could find her relaxing at home watching the news or PBS, spending time with her family and attending church service at Calvery Chapel Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory; two sons, Terrell Johnson and Keith Block (Lydia); eight grandchildren, Rhonda Hattley, Ronald Hattley, Jennifer Golightly, Christopher Golightly, Muriel Younger (Geoffrey), Aaron Bond (Sophia), Sasha Block and Charles Block; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, relatives, church family and friends that she loved dearly.
