Bettie Lee Nance was born April 16, 1947, in Tarry, Arkansas to the parents of Roosevelt Harris and Sylvia Parks.  She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Perlina Works, mother, Sylvia Parks-Johns, father Roosevelt Harris, stepfather, Tebo Johns, nephew, Nathaniel Sigars, and a grandson, Tyree Nance.

She went to Tucker Elementary and Manual High School.  She was a substitute teacher and a cook at Phillis Wheatley Elementary.  Bettie was a member of Spruce St. Matthews Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Brown.  She later went to 35 ^th Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. C. Black before going to Fellowship Right Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Nevels until her untimely illness.

Bettie departed this earthly life on Thursday, December 24, 2020.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Bettie Jones, Dora Thomas and Cardella Johnson; three sons, Michael Nance (Margaret), Wahid Ash-Shahid, James Nance (Melissa) and Howard Nance; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one nephew; 2 nieces and a host of cousins.

Service for Mrs. Nance will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Fellowship Right Baptist Church.  Burial Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery.  Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the church.
