Affectionately known as B.K., Ms. Brenda Lucille King , was born, March 18, 1942, and passed away at St. Lukes Medical Center on June 18, 2025, after a brief illness.

B.K. was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Loretta Carter; and her grandmother, who raised her, Lucille Vaughn. Additionally, Jackie McAfee, baby brother, Roy Reynolds, Joe King; and her youngest daughter, Bridgette Reynolds.

B.K. was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and matriculated through Kansas City Public Schools, where she attended R.T. Coles, Central and Manual High Schools.

She was married to Roy H. Reynolds and had four children, Donzell, Carmen, Sherry, and Bridgett. That marriage was dissolved.  She later married Joe King.  B.K. and Joe were married for many years until that marriage was also dissolved.

B.K. worked at Northeast High School Cafeteria and Marbeck Appliances. B.K. lived a full and happy life. She loved to cook and entertain with family and friends. B.K. never met a stranger and if it needed to be done, she got the job done.

She was passionate about service and helping to get the right people elected. She worked many hours at the voting booths and at the polls. B.K. will always be remembered as a hard worker, an advocate for the people and change agent for her community.

She leaves to mourn her death, her children Donzell, Carmen and Sherry Reynolds; grandchildren, Krystalina Grogan, Orlanda "Sweet Pea" Starks, Vernon Carrell; and great-grandchildren, A. J. Grogan, Jeremiah Scoby, Nevaeh, Vernon Jr., Vermoni, and Vermon Carrell; and a host of family and friends.
