Rev. Charles Leonard Davis was born October 21, 1931, in Dermott, Arkansas. He was the 7th child of 11 born to the union of Ananias and Viola McHenry Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Willie Mae Davis, second wife Gloria Jean Davis; 3 sisters, Helen King, Willia Mae Moore and Carrie McClinton and 4 brothers, George, Raleigh, Ananias and Saul Davis.

The family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1947. He received his education at R.T. Cole.  In 1952, Charles joined the Air Force.  He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon return from military service he was employed at the Internal Revenue Service until retirement. Charles became a member of Friendship Baptist Church in 1960, under the leadership of Rev. I.H. Henderson, Jr.

Charles received and answered the call to become a preacher.  He graduated from Western Baptist Bible College in 1995, and delivered his first sermon in November 1997.  Rev. Davis served at Friendship Baptist Church for many years. He served in the role of Chairman for the Sick and Shut-In, Sunday School Teacher for Class Number 5, sung with the male chorus, was a Layman and faithful member of Baptist Training Union.  Rev. Davis served faithfully until his health failed him.

Rev. Davis was the proud author of a book entitled "My View of Christian Theology" in which he shared not only those views but poetry as well.  He served as President of his neighborhood association for many years.  He enjoyed attending the State Fair annually.  Above all, Rev. Davis loved the Lord and was dedicated at whatever job he performed.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Rita Robinson (Howard); a son, Curtis Davis (Leslie); one brother, Eddie L. Davis (Catherine), two sisters, Ruth Mae Dotson and V' Ethel Davis all of Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

Services for Rev. Davis were held Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Friendship Baptist Church.  Burial Missouri State Veteran Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
