Cherie Lynn Briscoe-Maxwell, was born September 22, 1958, under the union of Adolph B. Briscoe, Sr. and Lena L. Briscoe in Kansas City, Missouri.  She later changed her first name from Cherrie to Cherie.

Cherie confessed in Christ and was baptized at an early age and always acknowledged God thereafter.  Cherie attended two years of college at University of Missouri in Columbia where she received her Associates Degree in journalism and Accounting. She started working for the federal government in the Stay-In-School program and continued to work there during the summers while in college. After completing her Associates degrees, prior to starting her third year of college, she was offered a management position at Internal Revenue during her summer home visit. Cherie made the decision to pursue her career as a federal employee in lieu of returning to college. She excelled during the next 25 years throughout the federal government within Human Resources until her retirement.

While working full time as a federal employee, Cherie started her own business teaching belly dance. She maintained a successful career as both a federal employee for 25 years and a business owner for over 40 years teaching belly dancing. This allowed her the opportunity to travel all over the world to include Egypt to perform for royalty on two occasions. Cherie received two Belly Dance awards to include the Guinness Book of World Records Belly Dance national crown, scepter, and trophy around 1989, during competitions. After Cherie retired from the Federal Government she started working at University Missouri Kansas City in Human Resources where she fought for equal rights of African Americans after observing the environment and social injustices. Cherie was offered a settlement and took an early retirement after 10 years of service. Cherie then decided to put her journalism skills to work and she started researching how to write books. She successfully wrote and published several book series called Vampire Dancer Saga series and several cook books. Cherie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016, and after a two year battle, was cancer free. During this time she inspired other cancer patients by having potlucks with cancer patients once a month and using the opportunity to inspire them not to give up. At the time of death Cherie worked as a computer analyst for Apple. She received several Apple award products.

Cherie loved late night cooking of multiple, fried soul food dishes, listening to Motown music and was known for singing along to The Supremes, The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, The Temptations and  several other groups from the 70s and 80s.

Cherie's father, Adolph B. Briscoe, Sr.; mother, Lena L. Briscoe; brother, Vance L. Ashworth; sister, Regina E. Briscoe and several uncles and aunts preceded her in death.

She is survived by: her ex-husband/Junior high school sweetheart, Dean Maxwell; their only child, Jamila S. Briscoe; two brothers, Adolph B. Briscoe, Jr. and Reginald Briscoe; two sisters, Pamela Adams and Sheneda C. Mirador; three grandchildren, Tyrese Lomax, Deja Childress, Danielle Childress; one great-grandchild, Daniella Childress; aunt, Thelma Worten and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces.

Services for Ms. Briscoe-Maxwell will be held 12:30 P.M. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Friends may call from 11:30 A.M. until service time Saturday at the chapel.
