Clarence Elmo Simmons, Jr., 84, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026.

Clarence was born on September 26, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Clarence E. Simmons, Sr. and Carolyn Brown-Simmons. He was a lifelong resident of Johnson County, Kansas, where he built a life rooted in service, family, and community.

Clarence dedicated his entire professional career to public service. He worked faithfully as a civil servant with the United States Postal Service, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the United States Department of Agriculture. His commitment, reliability, and strong work ethic were hallmarks of his career.

After retiring, Clarence embraced life at a gentler pace. He found his greatest joy in watching his grandchildren grow and thrive. He loved traveling annually to book festivals and devoted much of his time volunteering at the Kauffman Center, where he continued to give back to the community he cared for deeply.

Clarence was preceded in death by his father, Clarence E. Simmons Sr.; and his mother, Carolyn Brown-Simmons.

He is survived by his sons, Clarence E. Simmons, III, and Courtney E. Simmons (Lori); and his five beloved grandchildren, Lauren Simmons, Camden Simmons, Caden Simmons, Kyler Simmons, and Corban Simmons; his Kauffman Center family, and a host of friends.

Clarence will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to service, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he cherished.
