Cleo Thomas' Obituary
Cleo Thomas resident of Kansas City MO formerly of Campti, LA passed away June 27, 2018, at the age of 82.
Cleo grew up in Campti, LA with his siblings, father and mother, Maybelle Thomas. All boy Cleo was always a smart fun loving young man. He went to school at Campti High school where he graduated and continued his education at a few different colleges including Grambling State University and William Jewell College in the state of Missouri where he later moved with the love of his life Clara Thomas to start his family.
Cleo started his career at Kenneth Dart as a union Stewart for 25 years. He did multiple business ventures of his own including coaching and owned his own restaurant, Southern Nook where he and his family served some of the best barbecue in the Kansas City area.
Cleo was a born leader. Every individual he encountered had deep love and respect for him and he showed many the meaning of family as well as the meaning of being a man. Cleo was a dedicated husband for 58 years and opened their home to raise a host of family members and friends just as if they were his.
After retirement Cleo enjoyed life. He loved anything with family and enjoyed family games such as bowling and dominoes. He still remains the family domino champ. He loved the sun and loved being outside enjoying the many activities nature would bring.
Cleo was a father to many and leaves behind: his beautiful, wife Clara Thomas; sister, Mary Ann Hayes; brother, David Thomas; his daughters, Dalphlyn Thomas-Hatton and Gretchen Still; grandchildren, Shalante Still, Gary Still, Aquila Still, Chantz Hatton and Niah Hatton; great-grandchildren, Taylah Still, Gary Still, III and Kasyia Carney and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that will truly miss him as he played a father role to them as well.
Services for Mr. Thomas will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 6, 2018, at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the church.
