Curtis Carl Dixon was born on August 18, 1952, in Kansas City, MO to Eva Jean Dixon and Clarence Hickman. He graduated from McCune High School and went on to join the Air Force, fighting in the Vietnam War. As a young child, Curtis enjoyed collecting army men, firefighter related toys, as well as model cars which he would take apart and put together often.

As he grew into adulthood, Curtis grew a love for playing the drums, R&B music, and DJ'ing, working in clubs such as The Blue Lounge and Bonnie's as Fancy Dancer and Downtown Dixon, and was always the life of the party.

Curtis worked as a Kansas City, MO firefighter for ten years before he went on to spend 20 years with the City of Kansas City before retiring in 2012. He also had a passion for helping the young men in Excelsior Springs Job Corp where he began working as needed after he retired until his passing.

After a long battle with illness, Curtis was called home on April 5, 2022, at the age of 69.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Eva Jean Dixon and a son, Curtis William Wimley. He leaves to cherish his father, Clarence (Beatrice) Hickman (Kansas City, MO); two daughters, LaShana Dixon (Kansas City, MO) and Qiana Smocks (Houston, TX); a son, Waymon (Monica) Dixon (Kansas City, MO); five grandchildren, Montrell Anderson-Dixon (Kansas City, MO), Parish Owens (Houston, TX), Josiah Dixon (Kansas City, MO), Kevon Dixon (Kansas City, MO), and Sa'Myra Dixon (Kansas City, MO); six sisters, Rose Johnson (Denver, CO), Sharon Dixon (Blue Springs, MO), Shelly Ibok (Liberty, MO), Michelle Johnson (Kansas City, MO), Catherine Moss (Kansas City, MO), and Beverly Armfield (Memphis, TN); three brothers, Michael (Tammie) Shelton (St. Louis, MO); Terence Hickman (Kansas City, MO), and Miles (Wilonder) Shelton (Houston, TX), and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Dixon will be held at Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 11:00AM E. S. Eley and Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10:00AM until service time at the chapel.
