Darrel Taylor Davis , 58, passed away December 27th, 2024, at his Kansas City home, due to respiratory failure. He is survived by his father, Mr. Audrey Taylor Davis; his brother, Mr. Nimrod Shabazz; and his six children, Ms. Taylor Davis, Ms. Maya Love, Ms. Tamar Davis, Ms. Mirella Davis, Mr. Dante Davis, and Ms. Katherine Davis. He is preceded in death by his mother, Flossie Jean Davis.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Darrel possessed a larger-than-life personality coupled with an exceptional intelligence and wit to match. Being raised by southern farmers-turned-teachers, Flossie and Audrey Davis instilled a work-ethic and drive for success in Darrel. From being allowed to skip the 3rd grade, to a host of achievements in sports, Darrel's early life featured many successes and hard-earned lessons under his parent's tutelage.

Darrel's hard work would ultimately result in his being accepted into the United States Air Force Academy. It was during this time that Darrel's talent for leadership and management would become apparent as he would rise to third in command out of 4,000 cadets and was on the All-Conference Track team, where he participated in the 10m high hurdles. Darrel would graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in 1988 and later went on to earn his MBA and Juris Doctorate Degrees.

Darrel would continue his education, receiving an M.B.A. in micro-marketing from California State University in 1991 and a Juris Doctorate degree in 1998 from the University of Colorado Boulder School of Law. Upon retiring from the armed services at the rank of Captain, Darrel would go on to marry Rosalin Davis and spend 23 years of life together.

Though Darrel had a litany of achievements and accolades, he never failed to support his community through Habitat for Humanity and 100 Black Men while also giving back to his church, Friendship Baptist in Kansas City. However, Darrel's proudest achievement was easily his kids.

Though sometimes absent and distant, Darrel instilled a deep sense of responsibility, achievement, and drive in all his children as all five, soon to be six, would attend and ultimately graduate from their respective universities.

Abhorring fanfare, drawn-out ceremonies, and long soliloquies, Darrel "Suga D" Davis' story is one with equal parts success and failure that was cut far too short as his final chapter foreshadowed reconciliation and personal growth. His passing leaves the world duller and quieter; he will be missed and his memory will be cherished.
