After a brief and difficult battle with pancreatic cancer, God summoned his General, David Leon Williams, 64, on the evening of Wednesday, January 23 ^rd , transitioning to eternal rest at the St. Luke's Hospice House. He was born August 5, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama to the union of Waymon Williams and Viola Roberson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Waymon Williams, Jr., and daughter, LaShun Jenise Williams.

David graduated from Jones Valley High School, Birmingham, Alabama in 1972. He attended Lawson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama for his basic wiring certification. David served 6 years in the United States Army, Infantry Division.  He was a Materials Handler at Magna, LMV Automotive Systems, in Liberty, MO.  He also worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for CMC Steel-Sequin, Sequin, TX; Millwright/Cast Iron Worker/Trough Man/Laborer for McWane Cast Iron & Pipe, Birmingham, AL; Laborer/Delivery Driver for Larry's Rags Company, Bessemer, AL; Cable Installer for Bright House Cable, and a Warehouse Shipping and Receiving Worker for State Farm both in Birmingham, AL.

"Pookie" was very outgoing, had an exuberance for life, the personality to match, and friendly nature.  He had a great sense of humor, making sure he made you laugh. He enjoyed and had a passion for Family gatherings, Barbeque, Alabama Crimson Tide football, and WWE Wrestling. If you knew Pookie, you know he loved to cook. He had an unparalleled work ethic and was considered a father figure and mentor too many, instilling in them the characteristics of strength, hard work and the pursuit of wisdom and excellence.

"Big Jim" never knew a stranger and could; and would strike up a conversation, especially about the Tide, with anyone who would listen. Family ties were made stronger through watching the Tide, movies, shooting pool, barbeques and games, as a family tradition beloved by all the family members and friends, especially by David's grandchildren who were the light of his life. An early riser, David was always ready for the day ahead.

He had compassion for those less fortunate, took every opportunity to share with others and was always willing to help someone.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his loving and devoted wife, Antonine L. Williams of KCMO; sons, Steven J. Williams U.S. Navy, and Marquis A. Whitted, KCMO; daughters, Davida (Jermaine) Williams Spann, Birmingham, AL, Shari N. Whitted, Shetara J. Williams, and Whitney D. Whitted, all of KCMO; sisters, Gale Roger of Buffalo, NY, Francis Kemp of Fairfield, AL, LuAnn Williams of Wenonah, AL and Drucilla Williams of Birmingham, AL;, four grandchildren, Stephon J. Williams, Arianna Williams, Lailaa N. Whitted and Justin Spann and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Service for Mr. Williams will be 11:00 A.M.Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Eley & Sons Chapel.  Burial Birmingham, AL. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Eley & Sons Chapel.
