Demetris W. Slaughter, 74, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 in Carrollton, Texas.  He was born on February 6, 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Clarence Slaughter and Mae Carson.  His parents preceded him in death along with his sister Sylvia Bramlett, his brothers Laggette Slaughter Sr., Dwight Carson Sr., and Ted Carson.

Demetris graduated high school in 1966 from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri.  He was drafted into the Marine Corp on April 1, 1968 and served until July 10, 1969.  During his military tenure he was a Purple heart recipient and was honorably discharged from the Vietnam War.  He later attended Pioneer College in Kansas City, Missouri and received certification as a welder and auto mechanic.

Demetris married Janice Slaughter, February 1982, and to that union one son was born, Solomon Demetris Slaughter.  Demetris started working for General Motors, Corp in 1978 at the Leeds plant in Kansas City, he then was transferred to Terrytown, New York, and then retired from the Arlington plant in Texas.  He lived out the rest of his retirement with his longtime girlfriend Doris Schuler.

Demetris had a love of jazz music, riding motorcycles, playing tennis, working on automobiles, photography and traveling. His friends and family would often refer to him as "Sam."  He would often come to Kansas City from Texas to visit his family and friends. Demetris cared and loved his family very much, and was generous and giving.  Anyone that "Sam" came in contact with might encounter a great conversation or debate.

Demetris leaves to cherish his memory: his loving son, Solomon; daughter-in-law, Tiffany; granddaughters Mariah and Amaya; and grandson Uzziah, and a host of relatives and friends.

Services were held for Mr. Slaughter Thursday August 18, 2022 at E.S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel. Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery.
