It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deacon Dennis William Swink, who departed this life on May 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born on November 29, 1955, to Nellie and William Swink in Kansas City, Missouri, Dennis was the youngest of a blended family, cherished by his two older brothers, Elliott S. Eley Sr. and Agreatt Theodore (Teddy) Johnson, who have all preceded him in death.

Dennis' early years were filled with joy and camaraderie as he explored the vibrant neighborhoods of historic downtown and the Vine Street District. He embraced his faith at a young age, a guiding light that would illuminate his path throughout his life.

In 1966, the Swink family moved to the midtown area of Kansas City. This is where Dennis attended John J. Pershing Elementary School and later became a celebrated football star at Southeast High School, graduating in 1975.

Following his high school years, Dennis proudly served in the United States Army from 1975 to 1978, earning an honorable discharge. His commitment to service continued as he joined the El Paso County Sheriff's Department, where he began a family that included his beloved daughter, Evelyn Swink, and a son who was born sleeping.

After the passing of his parents, Dennis returned to Kansas City, where he held various roles, including private security for some of the city's elite, a Correctional Officer at Leavenworth Prison, and a Technician at Praxair. He ultimately found fulfillment as a sergeant at MCI Corrections - Leeds Facility, from which he medically retired.

In Kansas City, Dennis met the love of his life, Donna Michelle Smith. Their relationship blossomed into a beautiful partnership filled with laughter, understanding, and unwavering support. They celebrated nearly 40 years together, culminating in their marriage on August 26, 1995. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Dystenee Swink, who brought immense joy to their lives.

Dennis was known for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to light up any room with his "dad jokes." He was a lover of life, and deeply committed to making a positive impact in his community. As an Administrative Deacon and Head of Transportation at Devine Temple Miracle House of Prayer, he served with grace and dedication. He was also an enthusiastic, warm, and welcoming presence at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel, where he won the Employee of the Year Award in 2018.  He touched the lives of many.

An avid lover of the great outdoors, Dennis found peace in fishing and dreamed of becoming a world-renowned BBQ Pitmaster. His passion for life and his love for those around him will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife, Donna M. Swink, of Kansas City, MO; his cherished daughters, Evelyn Swink of El Paso, TX and Dystenee Swink of Kansas City, MO; and his pride and joy, grandson Anthony Moncrief of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by a loving extended family and a host of friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.

As we celebrate the life of Deacon Dennis William Swink, we remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those he leaves behind.
