Dexter Anthony France was born on July 19, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the union of Junior and Baby Ruth France. His parents were originally from Chatham, Louisiana. Dexter was one of five children born to this union.

He was preceded in death by both parents (2011), brother, Norman Dwight France (2000); sister, Ruthe L. McKeever (2017); and nephew, Nathan Buie, Jr. (2006).

Dexter was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School System. He graduated from Southeast High School in 1973. He began his career at Ford Motor Company in August 1973. He gained extensive knowledge and skills in automotive mechanics and repairs, earning several certifications.  After 35 ½ years of service in various roles at the plant, Dexter retired in February 2009.

He was an avid bowler. Throughout his life, he was part owner of D & J Bowling years ago and current owner of the Strike Zone Pro Shop inside Premier Bowling Center in Raytown, Missouri. Also being a member of the USBC (United States Bowling Congress), Dexter achieved numerous league championships, bowled several perfect 300 games, multiple 700 series, and won high-score tournaments.

In addition to bowling, Dexter enjoyed fishing, particularly for crappies, at any lake he could find. He spent many enjoyable hours boating and fishing with family and friends.

Dexter was a member of Greater Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, where he found comfort and felt God's presence throughout his life.

In 1986, Dexter met the love of his life, Gloria A. Gray, at King Louie Bowling Lanes. Their long-lasting relationship blossomed into marriage, and Gloria remained by his side every step of the way.

Dexter's personality was unmatched. He was respectful, kind, considerate, and always wanted those around him to know that he was there for them. His unwavering love for his family, especially his grandchildren, was evident as he regularly attended birthday parties, graduations, sporting events, and family holiday celebrations. This love of family was something he learned from his father and carried with him throughout his life.

Dexter leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Gloria; his children, Donnell, Dexter Jr. (Diana), and Damon (Fabiola); his stepchildren, Erika, Garron (Arrion), and Byron; his six grandchildren, RaDana, Dexter III, Vanessa, Marcel, Preston, and Amier; two sisters, First Lady LaVonda Buie (Pastor Nathan Buie Sr.) and Minister Bobbie Jean France. He is also survived by his aunt, Mildred "Minnie" Harris of Chatham, Louisiana, as well as nieces, Nayshea, Julia (Steven), and Rashya (Hosea); nephew, Lamont; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many special friends.
