Donald Ray Matthews Was born October 13, 1956, in Holly Grove, AR to Louis and Laura Matthews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

While at the age of 10, the Matthews family relocated to Kansas City, MO where Donald Ray attended Lincoln Middle School. At the age of 16 Donald Ray Matthews started working at Pete and Ari's Cock and Bull Steakhouse in downtown Kansas City, MO.  He gave his life to Christ at a young age and during this time was a full time Sunday School Teacher at Church of God in Christ for Life. In 1980, Donald started a long and integral career at Baptist Medical Center as a Dietary Aide where he retired during the hospital's closing in 2006. Donald Ray loved praising the Lord and enjoyed myriads of food choices. He loved his hats and was a man of many pens! So, let's write on a heart the love that Donald Ray Matthews shared with each and every last one of us.

Donald Ray Matthews was called home on Monday, May 16, 2022, in Kansas City, MO.

He is survived by his brother, Terry Matthews; sisters, Geraldine Matthews both of Holly Grove, AR, Odis-Marie Matthews of KCMO; nephews and nieces, Terry Lamont Matthews of KCMO, Lashawnda Davis, Terry Davis both of KCK, Donnell Minton of KCMO, Trayviuan Davis, Markona Davis both of KCK; great-nephews and nieces, Tairre Matthews, Ashley of KCMO, Tairnae Matthews  of KCK, Taray Mathews, Andrea  Williams Tyler Matthews, Tytianna Matthews, Martaysha Laster, Dont'e Laster, Terry Lamont Matthews Jr., Terry Josh Matthews,Terry George Matthews,Terry Davis Jr. all of KCMO, Isaias Minton (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago), Tre'Quan Davis, Norionna Griswald, Treasure Davis all of KCMO;  great-great-nieces and nephews, Layla Easter, Elijah Logan, Jacquez Terry, Jaraji Terry, Da'Mazia Tinsley and Lydia Nimrod.

Funeral Services for Mr. Matthews were held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00AM at E. S. Eley and Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial XII Gates Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call from 9:00AM until service time at the chapel.
