Dorothy Elaine Hughes' Obituary
Dorothy Elaine Key Hughes departed this life on Monday morning, October 1, 2018, at the University of Kansas Medical Center with her son, Glen E. Hughes by her side. Dorothy was the youngest of seven children, born in Shreveport, Louisiana to the union of the late Phillip and Ada Thompson Key.
She united at an early age with Pleasant Hill C.M.E. Church in Gibsland, Louisiana. She graduated from Coleman High School in Gibsland, Louisiana, went on to continue her education at Grambling State University and graduated from Robinson Business School in Ruston, Louisiana.
Dorothy was adventurous, moving to Kansas City, Missouri for a new chapter in her life. Here she met and married the love of her life Mr. Curtis Hughes and born into this union was one son, Glen Edward Hughes whom she loved and adored.
Dorothy united with Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church where she remained a faithful member for over forty plus years until her health began to fail. She served on Steward Board, Missionary Society, and as President of the Stewardess Board.
Dorothy's work ethic was strong throughout her life. She was employed as a Senior Production Planner for Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell Engineering Service and Aerospace Systems, retiring after 26 years. Dorothy began working seasonal for Internal Revenue Services and decided to go full time again and retired from IRS in 2008.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Glen Edward Hughes of Kansas City; sister, Juanita Johnson, Point Richmond, CA; three grandchildren, Andre Teron Hughes of Kansas City, Aubrey Nicole Hughes and Darius Edward Hughes of Lee Summit and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Service for Mrs. Hughes will be held 10:00 A. M. Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. Burial Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.
