Deacon Eddie Davis was born on May 28, 1940, in Dermott, Arkansas, as the youngest of 11 children to Ananias and Viola Davis.

The Davis family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, when Eddie was 7 years old. He was educated in the Kansas City Public School System and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. Eddie attended college for two years before starting his professional career. He worked at the Columbia Toy Factory before joining Western Electric / AT&T as a Machine Setter. After 33 years of dedicated service, he retired from AT&T in 1996.

In 1963, Eddie met the love of his life, Catherine Ross. When Catherine went back to Tennessee to help her family pick the cotton they had planted, both realized how much they hated being apart. Upon her return in 1964, Eddie and Catherine got married, embarking on a loving journey that would last 61 years. Their bond was built on doing everything together, from league bowling and chaperoning Bible Summer Camps to serving at State Church conventions. They raised four children and one great-grandchild. Eddie understood the value of family and worked hard to keep his extended family close. As President of the Davis Family Club, he organized family trips, annual picnics, and family dinners, ensuring their connections remained strong.

Eddie professed his faith in Christ at the young age of 10 and joined Friendship Baptist Church as a candidate for baptism, being baptized in August, 1950. He faithfully served in numerous roles within the church throughout his life. Eddie became a trustee in 1997 and was later appointed as a Deacon.  He went on to serve as Chairman of the Deacon Board. Over the years, he led the Gad Sheepfold, served as a Sunday School teacher, and was the Superintendent of the Junior High Department. He was also a member of the Male Chorus, served as a Junior Layman Counselor for over 30 years, and held the position of Junior Layman President for 20 years. Additionally, Eddie drove the church van for 36 years, serving his congregation in many ways.

On a state and national level, Eddie made significant contributions to the New Era District, beginning as a Junior Layman Counselor at the age of 19. He faithfully served at Western Baptist Bible College each summer.  Eddie was the State Director of Boys for 15 years and was also the President of the New Era District Male Chorus Choir for over 10 years. Additionally, Eddie represented his local church at both Regional Meetings and State Baptist Conventions for many years.

Above all, Eddie was a devoted Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His kind nature, constant smile, sense of humor, dedication to prayer, study of the Word, and words of wisdom made him a respected mentor, role model, and cherished friend. Eddie was deeply loved by all who knew him.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Ananias Davis and Viola Davis; as well as five brothers, Raleigh, George, AD, Saul, and Charles; five sisters, Ruth, Willa Mae, Helen, Carrie, and V-Ethel; one daughter, Vickie Davis-Seals; two sons, Bernard and Gregory; and one granddaughter, Katherine.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Catherine Davis; his daughter, Tammie Davis; his great-grandson, Mykal Ross (Jahtziri); and his great-great-granddaughter, Amabella, all of the city; two granddaughters, six grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
