Eddie B. Porter was born May 6, 1915, to the union of Lawrence and Lydia Galloway in Sunflower, Mississippi.  She departed her earthly journey into glory on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at the remarkable age of 105, in KCMO. She was preceded in death by both parents, a son, Clarence Lewis, Jr.; two daughters, Willie B. Stanford and Catheryn Hogan; a grandson, Rodney Lidge and two great-grandsons, Antwon Hill and Dameon Hill.  When she was younger, she lived in Pickens and Mt. Bayou, MS with her parents and one brother until the passing of her mother Lydia, when she was seven years of age.  She moved to Hollandale, MS, at the age of 17, where she started her professional cooking career.

In 1961, she moved to Kansas City, MO and worked for Victory Hills Golf & Country Club in KC, KS.  This is where she met her best friend Mary Drummer, who was like a sister.  The later opened the Wing Ding Restaurant where she worked part time.  She continued to cook for the Price Candy Company, Klines Department Store, and Charlmont Cafeteria.  She was also the head cook at Buttonwood Tree Restaurant for several years until she retired in 1977.  By this time the Wing Ding Restaurant had moved and changed its name to the famous Hitching Post Restaurant, where she continued to serve customers part time until its closure.

She moved in with her youngest son, Henry Stanford and lived in Woodbury, MN and Grove City, OH for many years before moving back to KC.  For her 100 birthday, friends and family traveled from FL, OH, MN, IL, CA and KS to celebrate this wonderful milestone with her.  Over 100 people attended this joyous occasion.  She attributes her long life to clean healthy living, being kind to her fellow man and her faith in God.

Mother Porter united with the Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor T. B. Baker and served willingly and joyfully in several ministries.   She was appointed to the mother Board and served in the Kitchen Ministry, which she baked many good and helped with food distribution services.  She also served in the Mission Society and Outreach, The Women's Ministry of Call and even in her years of failing health, she maintained her obligations with sincerity to the call of the Mother Board.   Mother Porter always enjoyed participating in worship and praise during the time of visitation in her home.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory: her son, Henry Stanford of Grove City, OH; daughters, Ogeal (Walter) Hill and Lola Lidge  both of KCMO; 15 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 49 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Vera, Yvonne and Doris of Detroit, MI; four special cousins, Gloria, Ruthie, Tommy and David of KC, KS and a host other relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Porter will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 16, 2020, at Memorial Baptist Church.  Burial Highland Park Cemetery, KC, KS.  Friends may call from 9:00A.M. until service time Friday at the church.
