Ernestine Hightower's Obituary
Ernestine Hightower was born June 16, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri to the parents of Eugene and Bessie Gleason. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Rudolph Gleason.
Ernestine graduated from R. T. Coles High School She worked for the Kansas City School District as a Food Service Manager; retiring in 1995. During the summer months she cooked for more than 300 at the Barney Goodman Camp ran by the Jewish Community Center. Ernestine love cooking, she appeared in a Kansas City Star New Article "Come Into My kitchen". She also loved plants and gardening. One of her passions was traveling, Ernestine was known as a world traveler. She travel to the Caribbean, Europe, Australia, Africa, Middle East and the United States.
Ernestine joined Friendship Baptist Church March 29, 1966. She was very involved in church activities for over fifty years. She was in the Simeon Sheepfold, the Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School Class number 5 Teacher, Church Women United, Senior Adult, Love Outreach and Prayer Partner.
Ernestine Hightower departed this life and crossed over into Glory on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her three daughters, Denise Jones, Mary Allen and Machelle Turrentine; two sons, Michael Hightower and Darryl Hightower all of Kansas City, MO; brother, Eugene Gleason, Jr. of San Diego, CA and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services for Mrs. Hightower will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 24, 2018, at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the church.
