Essie Mae Wilson was born to Mike L. Brown and Alice Humphrey February 19, 1940, in Waterproof, Louisiana.  She was later raised by her stepmother, Blanche Elliott Brown.

She attended the Waterproof School District. Essie left Waterproof at a young age and relocated to Chicago, IL. After living in Chicago for a while, she relocated to Kansas City, MO where she then met Rayford Wilson, Sr. to later parent their only child together, Kevin Wilson.  Years later they would marry and live a long happy life together.  They were great parents and both had four children of their own from previous relationships.  Essie and Rayford were married 50 plus years until Rayford death.

Essie was a very loving and caring wife to her husband, mother to her children and to her family and friends. She was loved by many.

Essie Mae Wilson departed this life on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.  She joins in Heaven both parents, stepmother, Blanche Elliott Brown; husband, Rayford M. Wilson, Sr.; her eldest daughter, Shirley J. Hathaway; brother, J  Brown; sister, Lillie Stawder and stepbrothers, James Elliott and Joe Nathan Cummings.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Lee D. Brown, Charles E. Brown and Kevin Wilson all of KCMO; daughter, Linda F. Chew of Ralston, NE; four stepchildren, Anita Horn, Craig Wilson both of KCKS, Rayford M. Wilson, Jr., Anthony Wilson both of KCMO; one brother, Emeil P. Humphrey of KCMO; sister, Barbara Ann Johnson (Dr. Rev. Sam); both of St. Joe, LA; adopted brother, Henry Brown of Florida and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew and loved her.

Services for Mrs. Wilson will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Progressive C.O.G.I.C.  Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Friends may call from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the church.
