Flora Katherine Ganaway's Obituary
Flora Ganaway was born August 2, 1949, to the union of Andrew Funkhouser and Allena Herron in Joplin, MO. She was educated through the Joplin Public School System. She was preceded in death by both parents.
Flora attended college at Missouri Southern State for 2 years. She received Christ at an early age at Unity Missionary Baptist located in Joplin, MO. Flora moved to Kansas City and joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ in 1978. She was an active member of the church. She served in the choir, missionary and as a Sunday school teacher. She was best known for her work with Palestine's youth department. She began employment at Southwestern Bell in 1968, and retired with 32 years of service in 2000.
Flora will always be remembered for her contagious laugh and fun-loving spirit. She was always an encourager with a listening ear and would make the best of any situation.
Flora was united in holy matrimony to Nathan Ganaway, Sr. on December 31, 1980.
Flora departed this life on Friday July 20, 2018, at North Kansas City Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband Nathan; mother-in-love, Reverend Ivy Ganaway; sons, Nathan, Jr. and Jason (Aneatris9; granddaughters, Yasmine Adams-Brown, Breanna Brown, Shelby Jamison, MaKenzyi Brown; grandson, Ayden Ganaway as well as 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Andrew Funkhouser (Jeanette) and Sam Funkhouser; brothers-in-law, Charles Ganaway and Skip Ganaway as well as a number of nephews, nieces, cousins and extended church family.
Services for Mrs. Ganaway will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 30, 2018, at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Burial XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the church.
