Florida Maxine Shadlow was born to the parents of Ida Lee and Sam Gafney.  Her parents named her after her paternal grandmother.  She was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and came from a very close knit family.

During her years in Tulsa, Florida did some modeling; and being an excellent seamstress she made most of her own clothes.

In the late 70's Florida relocated to Kansas City and resided here until her passing.  Shortly after moving to Kansas City she was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness and was a member of the Grandview Congregation.  She was dedicated to her faith and loved sharing the scriptures.

Florida had a passion for decorating, studying world history and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels.  She loved her family and friends and had a very special bond with her great-grandson, Te'Von.

Florida's immediate family that preceded her death are, her parents, Sam and Ida Lee Gafney; two sisters, Pearline Erby and Earnestine Gafney; two brothers, Raymond Gafney and Melvin Gafney; a daughter Ida and a grandson, Anthony Scott Porche.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory: her children, Anthony "Tony" (Beverly) Gafney of Katy TX; daughter, Patricia Porche, Jeffrey Terry both of Kansas City, MO; brother, Arthur Lee Gafney of Tulsa, OK; sister, Paulette East of Houston, TX; 8 grandchildren, Nina, Katherine, Kim, Jeremy, Jo'Van, Scotty, Samantha and Shantel; 15 great-grandchildren, Tony's grandkids are Zion and Zariah, and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Shadlow will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 14, 2019, at E, S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Private Disposition.  Friends may call from 12:00 P. M. until service time Monday at the chapel.
