George Benjamin Pope was born March 26, 1955, to Carrie Virginia Wheeler Pope and Frank D. Pope Sr. Both parents and siblings Frank Pope Jr., and Virginia Faye Pope Williams preceded him in death.

George attended D.A. Holmes Elementary School and graduated from Southeast High School (class of 1973).  George confessed his belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late I.H. Henderson Jr. at Friendship Baptist Church. After high school, George joined the United States Marine Corps. Upon returning to Kansas City after his military service, he had several jobs, including event promoter with PWB (Pope, Williams and Barry) for 10 years. George also worked for the Kansas City Public School District.

Seeking new opportunities, George moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked as an assistant manager at Service Merchandise and a supervisor at Monarch Dental. George loved the Lord, his family, friends, westerns on midnight television, his many dogs and having a good time.

After a long battle with his health, George succumbed to illness on February 26, 2023. A father, uncle, brother, friend, giver, confidant and a kind soul, George will be truly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.

George leaves behind to continue his legacy: nephew, Jason D. Williams; niece, Ailey P. Pope; uncles, William "Bill" Wheeler Sr., and Franklin "Mike" Wheeler Sr.; adopted son, C.J. Lytle, and granddaughter, Anayah Lytle; adopted daughter, Brittany Robinson (Corwin), and grandson, Azil Robinson; special daughter, Brittany Lytle, and special grandson, Jayden Ritchie; special friend, Lisa Buycks; and a host of cousins, friends, and other family members.
