George Winford Sayles was born October 25, 1927, to Margaret Carrie Thierry and Matthew Lee Sayles in Morris, Oklahoma.  He had one sister, Helen Marie Sayles-Perryman.  His wife, Bettye Jean Sayles and grandson, Ryan Whitney Sayles all preceded him in death.

George was a proud World War II Veteran. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Navy on June 8, 1945. While serving his country, he kept a journal of his deployment which provided him the opportunity to visit the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, Panama, and Cuba.  George was Honorably Discharged on May 23, 1946.  In October, 2014, George took the "Honor Flight" for Veterans to Washington, D.C.  He and other veterans were honored for their time of service and sacrifice.

In June, 1949, he married the love of his life, Bettye Jean Booth.  This union lasted forty years until her untimely death on December 18, 1989. In this union four daughters were born: Vickye LaVerne, Tonie Jean, Kim Michelle, and Sue Ellen. George was employed for thirty years at General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant, from 1949 to 1979. During his tenure at GM, he was an active and proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Union. George also worked many other side jobs and community services like tree cutting, concrete work, moving, hauling and trash removal. He was often referred to as "The Poor Trash Man" aka "PTM".

"Paw Sayles" as he was affectionately known in his neighborhood of 67 years, never met a stranger. He was a good neighbor and friend to many and known to help anyone in their time of need. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling in his RV's and spending quality time with family and friends.  His favorite fishing spot was called "The Motherland" at a property of his dear friend, Dr. Nevada Lee.  George had stories and jokes for any occasion. He will be deeply missed, his smile, those stories, his charm and wit. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Left to cherish his memories are his four daughters:  Vickye Sayles, Tonie May, Kim Sayles and Sue James (Fred); five grandchildren, Anthony, David, Shellie, Torran and Charles; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and numerous neighbors and friends.

Services for Mr. Sayles will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial 2:30 P.M., Friday, January 14, 2022, Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Wednesday at the chapel.
