Helen Jean Hunter was born on July 4,1933 in Kansas City, Missouri to Willie McKay and Helen M. Moseley.  She is the oldest of nine children, and is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Thelma J. McKay (Dimple), Lillian M. Moseley (Smokey), Janet K. Moseley (HIJK), one brother Louis Moseley (Lou). She is also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hunter, Sr. (Al) and a very special life partner, Theodore R. Kilgore, Jr. (Ted).

Helen Jean did not have any children of her own but had a hand in raising her nieces, nephews and many of her friends' children; especially Denice Smith, who she affectionately called her daughter.

In her childhood years, she was educated in the Kansas City Missouri Public School System where she attended W.W. Yates Elementary School and R.T. Coles High School where she graduated.

Helen Jean's first employer was Emery Bird Thayer as a cafeteria worker, after many years of working for Emery Bird Thayer, she began working for the Kansas City Missouri School District as a baker, working her way up to cafeteria manager at Martin Luther King Junior High School then becoming the cafeteria manager at Sanford B. Ladd Elementary School. Retiring after 25 years of service with the Kansas City, Missouri School District, she continued to work part-time at Volume Services for 32 years before retiring from the workforce completely.

In 2009, she became ill and had to move in with her sister Phyllis Frazier. She and Phyllis were inseparable. Helen Jean attended and was an active member of New Bethel Church (Kansas City, Kansas) until she and Phyllis moved to Davenport, Florida in 2016. When her health began to fail, Helen Jean was moved into an assistant living facility until the day she was called home to Glory.

Helen Jean leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Phyllis E. "Ms. Duffy" Frazier (Davenport, FL), Bertha A. "Cuddy" Harrell, Patricia J. "Boo" Powell, one brother, Howard T. "Chico" Moseley (Sharon), two aunts Neotris Johnson and Ponice Page, all of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves to cherish her memory many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Services for Ms. Hunter will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at E. S. Eley and Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial Mount Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Tuesday at the chapel.
