James A Irvin, Sr.'s Obituary
James Albert Irvin Sr., affectionately known to all as "Irvin"; to family and close friends "Dad, Popz, Daddy, PawPaw, and Unc" was born November 26, 1936, and departed this life on Saturday, January 13th, 2018. He celebrated 81 years of life in Kansas City, MO where he attended public schools and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
On March 15, 1958, he was united in holy matrimony to the beautiful, talented, loving, family oriented Jo Ella Mae Smith. She preceded him in death after 54years of marriage with 11 children to their union. His mother Annabelle Owens and brother Leo Jenkins also preceded him in death. He was a hard working family man who after many odd jobs and a short boxing career (Golden Gloves) was hired on at Industrial Paper, later to be known as Batliner Paper Company as warehouse foreman. He retired in 1997, after 32 years of service.
Irvin never met a "stranger", he was loved and respected by so many young and old alike. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed watching and attending his beloved 'Kansas City Chiefs' games, traveling, entertaining family and friends, hanging out at "the beach" and his all time favorite "trash talkin" at the domino table with his sons, nephews, his buddies, or any stranger who was up for the challenge. He also loved to dress and always made an entrance when he walked into the room.
Even as his health began to decline, he continued flashing that beautiful smile, passed on words of wisdom, or would catch you off-guard with one of those 'corny off-beat jokes. He'd also make up nicknames to call you.
Leaving to celebrate and carry on his legacy from his marital union, 11 children: Tanya (Rahn), Renita (Ernest), James Jr. (Pricilla), Tony, Kevin (Laura), Jamie (Andre), Ron (Tracy), Dave, Kim (Lamonte) Dwayne (Patricia) Keith (Stephanie). Also daughters, Denise of Las Vegas, NV and Tara of Denver, CO'; 48 grandchildren; 84 great-grand.
Special recognition to his "In-laws" who accepted and loved him as their own brother: Shirley Banks (Daniel), Kenneth Smith (Mureen), Sherman Guinn (Kathleen), Gwen (his partner in crime) Davis, and Pam (PO) Oliver.
He will also be miss by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services for Mr. Irvin will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Paradise Missionary Baptist Church. Burial Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.
