Java Jenkins a long-time resident of Kansas City, Missouri died on May 27, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

Java Mae Jenkins was born on May 13, 1941, in Benton, Louisiana to Josephus and Rosie Lee Thompson. She was the second oldest daughter of 8 children. Java attended C.H. Irion High School and went on to further her education at Southern University.

After graduating college, Java married James Jenkins Sr. Together, they had 4 children. Several years later, Java and her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Here she was able to fulfill her lifelong dream obtaining a teaching job and raising her 4 children.  Java valued education and made sure her children did too.

Java did not have much spare time in her younger years as her four children kept her busy, but she loved bowling, playing slot machines, traveling, going for long drives, cooking (especially her biscuits and sweet potatoes) and teaching her school kids.

After retiring, Java dedicated her time to ministry, serving others and spending time with her family and grandkids. She was a faithful member of the Swope Parkway Church of Christ.

Java was preceded in death by her parents Josephus and Rosie Lee, and 2 siblings. Java is survived by her ex-husband, James Jenkins Sr., children, Daryl (Arielle & Elise), James Jenkins, II (DeLynn, James III, Jaszlyn & Jace), Nicole (Damon, Nashara, Ashley & Taylor) and Tyrone (Lexis). She also leaves to cherish several great-grandchildren, siblings, brother and sister in laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
