John Franklin Woods was born May 18, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to the Union of Melvin and Lee Edna Woods. John was the 4 ^th of Lee Edna's 8 children. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, 2 brothers, Norman (Bishop) Williams and Craig Rollins and 1 sister, Karen M. Woods.

John accepted Christ at a very young age as he attended 2 ^nd Baptist Church with his siblings. He boxed for Golden Gloves as a teenager and young man and was very well known in KC and beyond for his boxing skills and abilities. He also ran track and played basketball quite skillfully and won many awards and trophies for all 3 sports. He moved to Orange County, California and worked at The University of California in Irvine for 40+ years until retirement, where he was known as "Mr. Everything" because he was so handy.  Johnny loved to dance and have fun and he was always the life of the party.

He is survived by his son Sidney Woods (Warnette) and daughter Selina Woods, 3 brothers: Dr Rev Floyd Williams, Imam Omar Hazim (Deidre), and Melvin Woods Jr., 5 sisters:  Brenda Woods, Rita Woods, Diane Harris (Mark), Diane Hawkins and Sharon Arrington; long-time domestic partner Esther Ramirez, 3 grandchildren, Avis, Ascari and Keondre, 3 great-grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins and many close, life long friends.

Services for Mr. Woods will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 28, 2021, at E. S. Eley and Sons Funeral Chapel, Inc.  Burial Lincoln Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 A. M. until service time Thursday at the chapel.
