Joyce Bardell Walton was born on February 12,1959 to the union of George Atkins and Jewell Gulley in Chicago, Illinois. She was the second oldest of six children. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael Cortez Walton and grandparents.

Joyce was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1977.  After high school, Joyce worked for McGraw Hill in Mission, Kansas as a freelance photographer.  She, later, became a licensed foster mother.  With this endeavor, she ministered to many children for over ten years.  In addition to being a foster mother, Joyce was an adult caretaker for many years.

Joyce accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age.  She was one of the founding members of True Light Church of the Nazarene. She remained a faithful member until her health declined.

Joyce loved cooking and she loved listening to her Old School R & B music.  She had exquisite taste in clothes and designing items for the home.

Joyce departed time and entered into eternity on December 28,2022 at home.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory: two son Aaron Walton and Mark Fields; one daughter Dimon Walton; three sisters Frances Pryor, Rachael Atkins and Victoria Atkins; four brothers Keith R. Atkins (Irene), George Atkins, Darryl Atkins, Anthony Atkins: and a host of nieces, nephews, friends.
