Kenneth McKenzie was born April 16, 1951 in Byromville, Georgia and was the youngest of sixteen children born to John Wesley McKenzie, Sr., and Eva Mae Patterson McKenzie.

He moved to Kansas City at a young age, and lived with his younger sister, Carrie for several years. There he graduated from Paseo High School and went on to get his bachelor's degree at Baker University. In his younger days, Ken was known for his clean style, killer afro and sweet rides, which he washed and waxed daily. He spent time on the basketball courts where he, according to him, dunked on anyone who dared challenge him.

Ken was a hard worker, doing what he could to provide for his family and help those around him. His early days were spent selling moon pies and driving the local school bus in rural Georgia. He eventually gained employment at Southwestern Bell, in Kansas City, where he held several titles during his tenure. He moved his family from Kansas City to Tulsa, OK in 1985 as he transitioned from Southwestern Bell to AT&T. The family decided to return to Kansas City in 1990. He remained employed with AT&T until he joined Lucent Technologies and eventually retired with Avaya. Even after retirement, he remained dedicated to his work as the Owner and Manager of MAC's Lounge, where he built a large extended family (despite him being cheap!).

It was at his job at Southwestern Bell where Ken met his future wife, Etta Carol King. They married in Las Vegas, NV on November 29, 1977. Ken and Etta would have two children together, Kenneth McKenzie, Jr. and Kamille Elise McKenzie, as well as several grand-furbabies. Ken was a devoted husband and father. He and his wife supported each other through several business ventures and community outreach programs. He was also fiercely proud of his children, never without a lesson to teach them or a story to share to ensure they had the best life possible.

Ken, or "MacDaddy", a name he coined himself, was a charismatic, charming, loving person that could talk to anyone about anything; he never met a stranger and to know him was to love him. He was known for stopping on the side of the road to talk to strangers about barbecue grills. He thought of himself as funny and constantly sharing humorous anecdotes and jokes. According to him, he excelled at every hobby he had, including racquetball, fishing, grilling and cooking, golfing and collecting every gadget sold on QVC. He was heavily into politics and would spend long hours unraveling the complexities of the world with whomever would listen. Ken was also a proud member of the Masons of Kansas. Ken, his stories, his jokes and his warmth will be severely missed.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley McKenzie Sr. and Eva Mae McKenzie and siblings, John McKenzie, Jr. (Hiawatha), Calvin McKenzie (Edith), Curtis McKenzie, Monroe McKenzie, Joseph McKenzie, Carrie Barnes (Walter), Carolyn Cainion (Melvin), and Cynthia McKenzie, as well as his father-in-law, Eddie King, Jr. He is survived by a brother, Bennie McKenzie and sisters, Celesta Spivey (James), Dorothy Merrell, Mamie Rogers (Star Lee), Laverne Mitchell, Arleatha McKenzie, and Careatha Daniels as well as his children, Kenneth, Jr. (Dawn) and Kamille, and his mother-in-law, Carolyn King. Kenneth is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. McKenzie will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 22, 2021, at Friendship Baptist Church.  Burial. Burial Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 21, 2021, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.
