Lucy Slaughter was born November 5, 1949, to Reola and James Grant, Sr. in Kansas City, KS.  She was the second born to their union.  She was preceded in death by both maternal and paternal grandparents, her mother and father, four brothers, Isiah (Carolyn), James Jr., Melvin and Jerry Grant.

Lucy was baptized at an early age and rededicated her life back to Christ later in life and had been walking with Christ until her earthly departure. She received her education from USD 500 which included White Church Elementary, Arrowhead Middle School and Washington High School, class of 1968.

Lucy held multiple lines of employment which included commercial sewing with Sealy Mattress Company, Pride Maker Sports Wear and housekeeping at KU Medical Center and Bethany Hospital.

She joined with her mate, Nolan Slaughter, who she later married November 15, 2014.  Her hobbies were fishing, reading and bonding with her family.  She also had a special bond with her church family of Guiding Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Lee.

When you think of love, peace grace and unity you see Lucy for which she was all of them and more.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, Nolan Slaughter; brothers, Wilford Grant, Sr. and Darryl (Davetta) Grant Sr.; sister, Lizzie Grant; special friends, Loretta Whitaker, Cheryl Grander and Regina Featherstone and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Services for Mrs. Slaughter will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Guiding Star Missionary Baptist Church, KCKS.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time, Saturday, at the church.
