Lula Mae Boyd was born November 18, 1933, in Idabel, Oklahoma to the parents of Daniel Goodlow and Revenia Harris Goodlow.  To this union, an additional 5 children were born.  Lula Mae was the 2 ^nd daughter of this union.  Her parents and 5 brothers preceded her in death.

Lula celebrated 2 birthdays.  One on November 13, 1935, until a census report revealed she was 2 years older, actually born November 18, 1933;  What a surprise.

Lula Mae moved with her family to Kansas City, MO in 1942.  She attended Dunbar Elementary school and graduated from Lincoln High School.  While in high school, Lula took piano lessons from her god mother Ms. Bell.  From there, she began playing for Mariah Walker AME Church.  It was at Mariah Walker she met her lifelong partner Ezell L. Boyd, Jr.  She married Ezell Boyd in April of 1956.  With 1 son in hand, Leonard Barbee, six additional children were added to the union.  Deborah, Sharon, Banae, Ezell III, Phillip and Danny.  Banae preceded her in death.

Lula and family later joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ where Pastor Earl Abel inspired her to play for the Senior Choir and start the Mass Choir, playing for over 50 years.  She had a distinct style of playing.  Considered to be the best musician at Palestine.  Lula could stomp holes in the carpets under the piano and can be heard filling in with her magical vocal instrument with a Baaaa.....  She could really play that piano.  Lula loved gospel music and played from her heart.

Although she was a housewife most years, it must be noted that she raised her family in church and did an outstanding job with her children.  She loved playing cards with friends and family and cooking exotic meals.  She was known as the Holiday Queen.  She loved to entertain and celebrated every holiday with friends and family.  Christmas was her favorite.

Lula had a kind and gentle spirit that will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.  Job well done Lula, job well done.

Lula received her wings on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020.

She leaves to mourn her passing; 5 children, Deborah (Steve) Washington, Sharon Boyd, Ezell Boyd, III (Veronica), Phillip Boyd, Dan (Kelly) Boyd, Leonard (Lynn) Barbee; 3 siblings; Dan Goodlow of TX, Supreme Holiway of KCMO and Maurice Goodlow of CA; a sister in Love, Otha Wheeler and a special friend, James Owens; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends.

Graveside Service for Mrs. Boyd will be held 12:30 P.M. Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Thursday, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.
