Mary Louise (Bradshaw) Henderson , born on September 1, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Mary M. Bradshaw and Pearl T. Bradshaw. She lived a life rich in love, service, and dedication. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother Willis Ward, and sons Cornelius, Ronald, Larry, Michael, Carlos, and bonus son Cornelius Davis.

A woman of deep faith, Mary Louise committed her life to Christ at a young age, attending Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church for over 90 years. She was a devoted member that spanned over many years and as a result she was one of the oldest remaining members. She raised her family at Mt. Vernon planting a seed of the Love of Christ, to one day grow and blossom in their own lives. She led by example. She participated in the Inspirational Choir, Mass Choir, Ways and Means, and numerous volunteer roles under the leadership of pastors Reverend W.W. Horton, Reverend O.S. Jones, Reverend Emanuel A. Johnson, and current Pastor Donald Givens.

Mary Louise received her early education at W.W. Yates and Attucks Elementary School, RT Coles Jr. High School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. Later that year, she married Cornelius Henderson on November 26, embarking on a journey together that brought them ten children. Though their union eventually dissolved, it was filled with countless cherished moments.

Mary Louise devoted many years to being a nurturing homemaker, passionate school volunteer, and Early Childhood Aide. She made significant contributions as a dietary management supervisor at Research Medical Center, from which she retired after 30 years of dedicated service. The relationships built during these years at Research continued with monthly luncheons and birthday celebrations with a core group of friends. In retirement, she joined the Kansas City Royals organization where she brought warmth and genuinely enjoyed the sport and cherished the connections she made along the way.

Known affectionately as "Louise," "Auntie Louise," and "Weezie," she was the heart of her family and community. She was tech-savvy and possessed a remarkable memory, often sharing history and knowledge with many. She enjoyed scrolling through Facebook and Facetiming grandchildren. She also ensured every birthday and holiday was celebrated, extending her thoughtful gestures to her nieces, nephews, and friends. This act of love was cherished by everyone because they always knew she would remember them on their special day. She loved socializing and was always ready with a kind word, wise advice, or quick wit.

Mary Louise found joy in many activities and shared her zest for life with others. Her calendar was always full of invitations to many events (birthdays, weddings, family gatherings or just a simple ride to the store), she was always ready and willing to join you whatever the occasion. You could always count on Louise to show up with a big smile and loving support.

She was an avid reader, engaged in several book clubs, wrote poetry, an art enthusiast. She was a dedicated member of a morning prayer line for over 15 years. She participated in a bowling league, the local community center's exercise group, and numerous other activities. She also loved to travel the world. She served as the secretary and treasurer for the 1947 Lincoln High School alumni association. Her commitment to civic duty was evident through her work with the Kansas City election board and as a community activist.

Her passion for dominoes and her delight in April Fool's Day were well known. No matter how expectant we were, she always managed to surprise us with her jokes. She had a love for television, movies and soap operas were her favorites.

Mary Louise was one of the original tenants in the Senior Living Swopes Estates Apartments for over 22 years. She was known and loved throughout the building. This residence was a place filled with love, fun and laughter. You could always find her in the community room engaging in many activities (Black History program, book club, dominoes, community meetings, nail spa day, family gatherings or just sitting around enjoying the company of others).

It takes a village to raise a child. Mary Louise was a mother figure to many, extending her warmth and wisdom far beyond her immediate family. She was a confidant to many, a counselor to others, and a social butterfly who loved people without judgment. Although she was one of many strong mothers in the East End neighborhood, in her later years, she became the matriarch of her family and the neighborhood families she touched. Mary Louise was definitely one of a kind.

Mary Louise departed this life on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. Her memory will be cherished by her daughters Sandra Dudley, Valerie Henderson, Diedre Henderson Campbell, Joselyn Henderson, and Kristie Thornton (Darroyce), along with 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren, niece Hope Smith, a lineage of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, and God daughter Carolynne Holden.

Mary Louise Henderson' s life was a testament to unwavering faith, unconditional love, family, and community. Her memory will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate to know her.
