Mary R. Smith was born on November 12, 1928, in Kansas City, MO, to Alberta A. Thomas and Edward A. Thomas. She received her elementary education in St. Louis, MO and Kansas City, MO. Then completed her high school education at RT Cole, and Lincoln High School in Kansas City, MO, graduating in 1945. Mary continued her education at Lincoln Jr College, where she graduated with a degree. She was a lifetime member of Centennial United Methodist Church, where she accepted Christ at an early age.

After college, Mary married Charles L. Smith Sr. and had four children. After the marriage was dissolved, she later met Claude (Dee) Dale, with whom she had three children. Mary was known for her work ethic and dedication to her job, including working at the Kansas City MO School District, the Union Station Coffee Shop, and as the Housekeeping Manager at The Muehlebach Hotel and Hilton Inn at the Airport. Her hardworking nature earned her the respect and admiration of those she worked with, until her health failed.

Mary (Mom) enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, listening to music, Gospel, and Jazz, watching her favorite TV shows especially, Western and Law and Order. She was devoted to her faith and spent time reading her Daily Word. Mary departed this life peacefully in the comfort of her home on November 16, 2023, surrounded by her family. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

She was proceeded in death by both parents, two brother's Edward Thomas and John Thomas. One son Charles L Smith. Jr. One grandson Keith Green, one great grandson Romell Fisher and one niece Antionette Thomas. Mom leaves to cherish her memory four daughters and two sons. Marjorie Green, Danise Bruce, Halim Gharimin (Charlean), George Dale, Debra Nicholson (Raymond), Kimberly Dale. A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren. As well as nieces, nephews, and friends. There are no goodbyes for us, you will always be in our hearts.

Memorial Service for Mrs. Smith will at 11:00am to 1:00pm Saturday, December 2, 2023 at E.S.Eley & Sons Chapel Inc.
