Michael "Mike" Bruce was born October 19, 1960, in Bastrop, Louisiana the third child of Mae Frances and Carl Wesley Bruce.

The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963.  Michael attended Kansas City, Missouri Public Schools and graduated from Southeast High School in 1978.  After graduation Michael joined the U. S. Army in the spring of 1979.  Stationed at Ft. Jackson, North Carolina for basic training then to Ft. Benning, Georgia, Frankfurt, Germany and Honduras during his over 10 years of service.

Mike being a traveling free spirit, lived in several places during his life, working in construction and his second job playing the lottery.  Finally settling down in Atchison, Kansas.  He touched the lives of many people with his mischievous smile, open heart his sense of humor and his unique way of cooking.

Michael died Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the age of 57.  He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Wesley Bruce; grandparents, Guy and Lucinda McKee; aunt, Margaret Blocker and uncle, Guy McKee, Jr.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his mother, Mae Frances Bruce; wife, Lachelle Smith; brothers, Jackie Bruce, Carl Bruce and Raymond Bruce; sisters, Vonda Bruce and NeuQuetta Bruce; two step children; eight nieces; two nephews; one grand-nephew and a host of family and friends who loved him.

Service for Mr. Bruce were held Saturday, March 10, 2018, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Cecil Logan officiating.  Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery.
