Mildred Marie Johnson's Obituary
Mildred M. Johnson was born February 17, 1926, in Coffeyville, KS to Worthy and Margie Teal Thompson. Her parents and other siblings preceded her in death.
Mildred attended grade school in the rural area of Coffeyville, better known as Sandyridge. She attended high school in Coffeyville, graduating with the class of 1944. She also attended the Coffeyville Junior College and graduated in 1947, with an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing.
Mildred was married to the late William J. Johnson on august 23, 1946. They later moved to Kansas City, MO in 1949, where Mr. Johnson was employed with the Railway Mail Service.
To complete their family circle, they adopted two children; Andre Cordell in 1963, and Marquita Marie in 1966. These two proved to be the joy of their lives.
As a career, Mildred was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Baptist Memorial Hospital and Research Medical Center. She retired from Research Medical Center in 1991, after 19 years of continuous service.
Mildred received Christ at age 9 when she was baptized and worked in her home church-Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church of Sandyridge. The Johnsons joined Mariah Walker A.M.E. Church in 1958, under the pastorate of the late Albert L. Carter. Since, Mildred has been a faithful laborer throughout the years and has served in many capacities. However, her most of her time spent with the church had been with the Women's Missionary, the YPD and the Sunday school department. In the Field of Missions, she has served on the local, conference branch & district levels and attended five Quadrennial Conventions.
To mourn her homegoing she leaves behind: two children, son, Andre C. Johnson and daughter Marquita M. Johnson; four grandchildren, Katisha Johnson, Nikko Harris and Nicholas Johnson, all of K.C., MO; and five great-grandchildren, Devin Taylor, Kalin Johnson, Amarah Harris, Dominic Harris and Nicholas Johnson, Jr. and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, faithful friends and her Mariah Walker Church family.
Services for Mrs. Johnson were held Friday, June 15, 2018, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel. Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery.
