Nathaniel C. Dorsey Sr. was born May 20, 1926, in Vanndale, Arkansas.  He lost his mother Ernestine Davis at an early age and was raised by his aunt, Neil Aldridge.  He relocated to Kansas City, MO as a teenager and attended R.T Cole High School. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Wayne Minor Post. He was baptized in his youth and served at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ.

After his return to Kansas City he met the love of his life Katherine Morris.  They were married February 6, 1953; 66 years of love. To this union, they shared seven children, five sons and 2 daughters.

After his service in the military he returned to Kansas City where he played semi-pro baseball. His love for sports sparked his career as a vendor at sporting events including but not limited to the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.  Nathaniel is best known for his work ethic.  He retired as a driver for Sears and Lipton Tea after 20 years of service.  In 2013, he retired from the Jackson County Courthouse after 15 years.  Nathaniel was the head of his family and offered advice, solicited and unsolicited.  He was always there to lend a listening ear or provide to anyone who needed his support.  Nathaniel's outgoing personality never met a stranger. You could find him holding a conversation with anyone, anywhere.

Nathaniel was preceded in death by: his mother, Ernestine Davis; aunt, Neil Aldridge; sister, LaVerne Magic; brother, Lonnie Sykes and granddaughter, Gabrielle Dorsey; two nephews whom he raised, Hal Magic and Gene Robinson and a niece, Marilyn Magic.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Katherine Dorsey; five sons, Alvin Barnett (Sara) of Georgia, Nathaniel Dorsey Jr., Harold Dorsey (Cynthia), Kevin Dorsey (April) of Kansas City and Timothy Dorsey (Yvonne) of Overland Park, KS; two daughters, Patricia Howard (Ernest) and Karen Dorsey of Kansas City; grandchildren, Amos (Tiffany), Dawan (Myesha), Autumn, Shaunta, Elisha, Aaron, Ernest III, Joandrea, Elise, Tim Jr., Tyrone and Tamisa; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Service for Mr. Dorsey will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 20, 2020, at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Monday at the church.
