Nathaniel was born July 14,1942 to the parents of Johnny SR and Johnnetta Grant. He was preceded in death by both parents; Wife, Margaret "Margie" Grant, two children, Anthony "Ray" Grant and Nathaniel "Pewee" Grant, Jr.; five brothers, Charles Leroy "Boomer" Grant, Johnny Grant, Jr., Willie Grant, Felix Jerman, Cleophis Jerman; four sisters, Eloise Pointer, Annette Boston, Wilma Clark, Alma Jean Grant; and stepson, Leonard Watts.

Nathaniel attended school in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri and got married in 1960. He worked for the Kansas City, Missouri School District for 25 years. He retired from Troost Elementary School.

Nathaniel was a police officer. He was in the Motorcycle and Van Club.

He leaves to cherish two daughters, Bettie Jones and Netta Alexander; two sons, Kevin Grant and Nathan Boop; three sisters, Catherine Grant, Louise Young Moore, and Lavern Jerman; three brothers, Kenny Grant, James Grant Sr., and George Jerman; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece's, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews, cousins, and friends.
