Norma Clayton was born on January 9, 1926, in Monroe City, Missouri. She was the only child born to Cecilia and Harry Williams. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age, as the foundation of her Christian walk was laid by her parents and grandparents.

Norma attended a one-room school house and she played on the girls' basketball team, where her position was forward, and according to Norma, she was "the best." She graduated at the top of her senior class from Monroe City High School. After graduation she attend the Madam C. J. Walker Beauty School and worked as a Licensed Cosmetologist for over 50 years.

Norma married the late Jacob R. Clayton in 1946, and they moved to Kansas City, MO in 1970. To this union two children were born, Winona and Dorothy (both daughters proceeded her in death).

Norma united with the Friendship Baptist Church in 1970, where she remained an active member. She served as the Sunday School Teacher for Class #5 for many years, she was a faithful member of Deaconess Ministry, Circle Chairperson for the Rose of Sharon Mission Circle, Senior Saints Ministry, Usher Board and she was a church bus driver.

As Norma would say, "in order to make ends meet," she held several jobs over the years. Even when things seemed very bleak, she knew God had a blessing with her name on it. She was hired to work in the Crown Room at Hallmark Cards where she was responsible for baking thousands of cookies a week. This was one of her favorite jobs. She later retired from Hallmark to focus and dedicate her time to her grandchildren.

After retiring the second time from the Full Employment Council, Norma worked for the Foster Grandparents Program in the Hickman Mills School District as a Foster Grandmother. She recruited other grandparents to be a part of the program. The children loved her and whenever they would see her, they would call her grandmother. She was a living testimony! Even after losing both her daughters (Winona and Dorothy), she continued to let her light shine. She shared joy, hope and laughter to all she met. Norma never met a stranger.

Norma leaves to cherish her memory: her grandchildren, Preston Turner, Paulita Moore, Shelisa Butler (Donald), and Cecelia Brewer; great-grandchildren, Donte' Moore, Preston Turner Jr., Eboni Moore, Malachi Butler, Joshua Butler, Solomon Anderson, and Naomi Butler; a host of surrogate children and grandchildren, cousins and lots of friends

Services for Mrs. Clayton will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2018, 2018, at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor James A. Terrance, Jr. officiating. Burial Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the church.
