Om Kee Hata's Obituary
Om Kee Hata was born in Mindat, Chin State, Burma on January 02, 2001 by parents, Mr. Sing Om (father) and Mrs.Ling Line (mother).
Om Kee, his mother and younger siblings resettled in Kansas City, MO in March of 2017 due to persecution.
On July 06, 2018 at 3:09pm, our beloved Om Kee passed away while swimming at Hillsdale Lake in Miami County. He was a 17-year-old boy living in a country not his own, navigating a culture and language foreign to him.
Om Kee took on the role of father-figure because he had to. He was the eldest of five siblings with a single mother.
He was working at the Northeast KC Chamber of Commerce this summer to help support his family.
Om Kee attended East High School and played soccer with Global FC. He even earned his way to becoming team captain. He walked on the soccer field with a profound sense of gratitude for the opportunity to play. Soccer was an outlet where he could just be a kid and to be free, playing the sport he was most passionate about. His maturity, humility, gracious spirit and genuine smile inspired us all. He was the kid that was the first to run up to the coach and take the equipment from his hand to take to the field.
Om Kee has forever left a mark in the northeast community, East High School students and staff, the Global FC community and in the lives of all who knew him.
No matter his circumstances, he would always say, "God will provide." He fought for the simple things in life. He stood strong in the promises of God and had a powerful and unwavering Christian faith. He loved Jesus and walked authentically in Kingdom values.
He now rests in the arms of Jesus. Please continue to keep his family in your prayers.
He leaves behind his mother Ling Line, his brothers Om Naing, Om Gai, Om Khui Shing and his little sister Om Hei. Om Kee, you are forever cherished in our hearts.
