Patricia was born in Junction City, KS to the late Leroy and RoseMary Lane.  Patricia or "Pat" as everyone called her, moved from Junction City to Kansas City, MO at an early age. Pat attended Booker T. Washington and D. A. Holmes Elementary Schools. She attended Central Middle and then went on to graduate from Central High School in 1961.

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Lincoln University in 1965. She also attended college in Warrensburg, MO.   While attending school in Warrensburg, she also taught 1 ^st grade with her sister at Mary Harmon Weeks Elementary. They were called Ms. Pam and Ms. Pat.  She received her Master's Degree in Learning Disabilities from Central Missouri State University.

She furthered her education by obtaining her degree in Educational Specialist Equivalency Counseling from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.  Pat was named Who's Who of American Women, 1997-1998.

Pat was united in marriage to Edward (Pete) Washington. This marriage was dissolved. Pat's two beautiful children Janet and Kelly blessed her with 5 beautiful grandchildren: Pat was also involved in the lives of her niece and nephew.

She joined Second Baptist Church at 10 ^th and Park at an early age and worked in her church with various youth groups while raising her own children. She also worked with children and adults at Second Missionary Baptist, Trinity Temple and First Baptist Church.

Pat worked with her sister Pam, and friend, Gloria Watson on Saturday mornings preparing students for the ACT/SAT Tests.

While educating youth throughout the city, Pat reached out to youth in the districts of Kansas City, Hickman Mills, Center, Raytown and the Metro Community Colleges.

After Patricia retired from education, she took care of her ailing mother, RoseMary.  After RoseMary's passing Pat moved to John Knox Village where she became a part time chaplain.  She also started one of the Red Hat Groups, "The Lady Bugs." Her John Knox family knew her well as she traveled throughout the community and she graced many of their flyers and booklets. She was one of the faces on the website for John Knox.  They knew Pat was always there to lend a helping hand and ready send up a prayer for the Village.

While at John Knox she started a prayer ministry through Second Baptist Church, combining Naomi and Darcas prayer intercessors and prayer warriors throughout the community, which at times involved more than 15 people getting on the conference call to pray for others. She believed in the mighty power of prayer. This group continues in prayer weekly.

When her health began to fail, she moved to Jefferson Health Care where the three "J's": Jerri Marshall, June Lawson and Jacqueline Moore visited her daily and the 1 "C" Cleo McGee brought flowers to Jefferson Health Care.

Pat always hoped that one day God's children will be reading, writing and learning at a level not far from their actual grade level.

Her grandfather: Emzie (Ging) Strong, grandmothers, Octavia Bell Rose Strong, Joesephine Strong, uncles, Emzie Harold (Bootsie) Strong and Samuel Strong and favorite aunt, Gladys Robins; cousins, Eddie and Samuel Johnson Sr.; foster nephew, Stephen Kerr preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memory her daughter Janet Rosemarie Lightsey; son Kelly Edward Washington (Yayoi); Sister Pamela Peppers (Lee); niece, Patricia Peppers Towles (Anthony); nephew, Ivory Leroy Peppers; (Michell) grandchildren: Marcel, Makela, Maryia, Jamira and Asia Jade; great nephews: Austin and Ira George, great niece: IvieRose and a host of cousins, relatives and friends too numerous to name individually.

Services for Mrs. Washington will be held 11:00 A. M. Friday, August 28, 2020, Second Baptist Church. Burial Forest Hill Cemetery.
