PATRICIA RUTH TAYLOR-SMITH was born on June 18, 1930, in Checotah, OK to the late Roosevelt Taylor and Lessie Jane Rich.  She was the first of two daughter & two sons.  She was raised by her grandparents during her first fifteen years in Checotah, OK.  She then moved to Tulsa, OK to live with her mother.  She was educated in Tulsa, OK by the Catholic School system and graduated from St. Monica Catholic School in 1948.

She permanently moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1948, and lived with her uncle and aunt, the late Jewel and Lorraine Rich.  She converted her faith to Pentecostal and joined the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ under the leadership of the Late Bishop Boswell.  After attending a High School Dance, she met and married William M. Smith Sr. on November 5, 1950, at Metro Spiritual Church, after two months of romance.  She was married to William M. SmithSr. for 65 years until his homegoing on January 20, 2016.

Nine children were born out of this union.  She and William raised their grandson, Sidney Woods as a son after the passing of her eldest daughter, Lorraine Maloney. William and Patricia attended East Side New Hope Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, while raising their children.  She made sure her kids attended Sunday School every week.

After the children grew older, she joined several other Pentecostal Church.  She made a commitment and joined Victorious Life Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Tolbert Sr.  Patricia enjoyed being a seamstress earning extra money for the family.  She was employed by the State of Missouri as a licensed Day Provider for 50.  Additionally, she was a secretary for local 12-1 Quartet Union for 50 years.  She sung with a local gospel group called the Echols of Melody.

Patricia loved gospel music and loved to sing in groups or solo.  You would find her singing around the house while keeping things in order. She was a dedicated mother who always provided for her children.  What she didn't provide, she stated that "GOD will make a way."  She was always faithful and dedicated to whatever she put her hands to and to doing GOD's will.

She was preceded in death by:  a sister, Thelma Jean Landrum; husband, William M. Sr.; daughter, Lorraine; son, Eugene; a brother, Billie Taylor; paternal grandparents and a daughter, Tamecio Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  5 sons, Vincent Sr., William II, Eric, Craig and Keith; 3daughters, Willa (Robert), Patricia A. and Harece; a grandson, Sidney Woods; 3 sister, Lillie Mae Bellamy, Lois Johnson (Robert) and Jean Johnson; a spiritual sister, Betty Jones Griffin;20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces,nephews, relative and friends.

Services for Ms. Smith will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Victorious Life Church.    Burial Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until service time Thursday at the church.
