Patsy Ann Whatley's Obituary
Patsy Ann Whatley was born November 17, 1947, to James and Helen Sims. She was the youngest of six children born to this union. She was preceded in death by both parents; James and Helen Sims, three brothers, James Sims Jr., John Wesley Sims, and Alfred Sims, one sister, Alfreda Sims; seven nephews, Louis Sims, Alfred Sims, Booker T. Sims, and Noland Sims, Andre Sims, Alfonso Sims, and Regis Sims.
Patsy received her early education through the Kansas City, Missouri School District. She graduated from Manuel High School in 1965. She later, attended and graduated from Avila University with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. She was a revolutionary in that she was one of the first blacks to graduate from this university.
After graduation, Patsy worked for the City of Kansas City, Missouri as an executive secretary for more than 25 years. After retirement, Patsy continued to enhance her business savvy by starting and operating several businesses.
Patsy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Personal Savior at an early age. She attended St. Stephen Baptist Church.
Her home was always open to all the children in the neighborhood. Everyone's child in the family lived with her at some point in time. She loved watching her favorite programs, which comprised of any Sci-Fi show, N.C.I.S., C.S.I., and Animal Planet. She was a "Trekkie."
When she was not watching her programs, she was cooking in the kitchen. One of her favorite meals was pig ear sandwich and strawberry soda. She loved to garden. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Patsy departed this life on Monday, August 20
th
at Truman Medical Center.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving sister, Evelyn McGee (John) of California; a sister/ niece Johnni Michele Young; daughter, Pepita Whatley; son, Charles Whatley, III (Sherri) all of KCMO; eleven grandchildren, Aisha Love Joy, Patricia Williams (Luereather), Charles Whatley, IV, Tajay Whatley, Albert Wright, Michelle Whatley, Brian Evans, Anthony Evans, Tatyana Bryant, Alfonso Whatley, Aqib Whatley; twelve great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; niece, Yvette Sims and a host of other nieces and nephews who think they should all be listed!
Memorial Services for Mrs. Whatley will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 1, 2018, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel. Private Disposition.
