Rosemary "Sister" Starr was born on June 3, 1933 in Canton, Mississippi.  She was the third child born to the late Ethel and Isreal Johnson, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband; Matthew Starr, two children; Matthew "Ricky" and Elaine, her parents; Ethel & Isreal Johnson, Sr., her sister; Sarah Lee Brown, her brothers; Edward B. Johnson, Isreal Johnson, Jr., and Charles C. Johnson.

Sister accepted Jesus Christ, at an early age, at Mt. Zion Cobbville Church in Canton, Mississippi.  Her education was obtained from the Canton Public Schools.  She graduated from Cameron Street High School.

After graduation, Sister moved to Kansas City to live with her older brother, Junior and sister-in law Glendora.  She united with the Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. McKinley Dukes, where she served on the Usher Board.

She later met and married the love of her life, Mathew Starr. To this union four children were born, Ricky, Elaine, Jerry, and Rendell.  Matthew made sure that Rose never wanted for anything. "Rose" (as Matthew called her) was a devoted house wife.  She loved her children and her family.  She loved the Lord.  She always spoke of "His Goodness."  She was an encourager to all.  Her joy was feeding everyone who visited her home.  Everyone loved her collard greens, cornbread, and sweet potato pies.

Our beloved "Rose", "Sister", leaves to cherish her memories her sons; Jerry Starr and Rendell Starr, a niece/daughter; Deborah Hogan whom Sister helped raise, three grandchildren; Tiana, Tamara, & Jamal, t wo sisters; Willie D. Bates, and Almetter Taylor of Gary, IN, t wo brothers; Walter (Sharon) Johnson of Lee's Summit, MO and Lee Andrew (Bobbie) Johnson of Canton, MS, special nieces; Linda Martin and Stephanie Addison, a host of loving nieces; Gwendolyn Thompson, Jacqueline Creighton, Whillette Johnson, Shurronda Johnson, Nicole Johnson, Chanell Watkins, and Sandi Johnson, a host of nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Starr will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 13, 2019, E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial XII Gates Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the chapel.
