Ruby Brown-Hendricks was born August 10,1938, to the proud parents of Charlie Bonton and Solevia Fontenot.  She received her wings on July 14, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maurice Hendricks, her daughter, Yolanda Brown, two brothers, Raley Bonton and Elray Thompson, and her sister Evelyn White.

Ruby was born in Evergreen, Louisiana and raised in Houston, Texas. She was educated in the Houston, Texas school system and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1955. She moved to Kansas City, MO where she attended Nursing School at General Hospital. She met and married Willis Brown and together they had three daughters; Yolanda, Rhonda & Cheryl and raised Beverly, Ruby's sister.

She was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member at Southside First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated worker with the culinary ministry.

Ruby loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was very family oriented. Her daughters were her world. They gave her the nickname "Warden Brown". Ruby always had time to share life experiences with not only her daughters but with their friends and others. She loved the summers and weekends with her grandkids. She never met a stranger. Her loyalty as a friend allowed her to maintain over 60 years of friendship, with Bobbie Block, Thelma Mae Ward, Yvonne McCay, Millie Ferguson & Mary Malone. To those listed and more, thank you for being her friend. She loved to travel, was an avid bowler and an excellent cook.

After being single for many years, she met and married Maurice Hendricks. They loved and cherished each other for 44 years. They were a part of an Investment Club and a travel group. They enjoyed hosting family gatherings, and everyone was always welcomed and made to feel at home.

She worked many years as a nurse for Dr. James Johnson and she retired from Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center.

To rejoice her life Ruby leaves her daughters; Rhonda Tigner (Alonzo), granddaughters Alexis & Lauren, KCMO; Cheryl Brown Rucker (Colandus), grandkids Colandus III "Trey", Justin, Candance & Henry, Lee's Summit MO; grandson Daryl Brown II (Jasmin), great grandkids Grayson & Serena, Ypsilanti, MI; her sister Beverly Anderson (Michael & Jelesa), KCMO; her special niece Debra Cross, Cypress, TX and a host of relatives and many friends.
