Ruth L. Stevenson's Obituary
Ruth L. Stevenson was born December 15, 1943 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was born to the union of Walter and Lorean Randolph. She was the eldest daughter of 8 children. She was married to Leon James Stevenson, Sr. from 1961 to 1968. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Charles Randolph, Walter Randolph, and Henry Randolph, one sister, Ruby Jewel Williams and one daughter, Andrea Randolph.
She received her formal education in Kansas City, Missouri and furthered her education in Accounting. Ruth worked nearly 40 years in accounting at various companies and retired from the Internal Revenue Service.
Ruth had a special love for her family. She always made sure all of the children in the family and community had clothing, food, shoes and other necessities. She had such a giving heart and would use any excuse to go shopping!
As a young woman, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at Wright Temple Church of God in Christ. She continued her spiritual journey as a member of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ since its inception and served there for over 50 years until the Lord promoted her from labor to reward. During her membership, she served as President of The Business & Professional Women and was a faithful member of The Deliverance Choir, where she led the song, "Yes, Lord". She also served in various auxiliaries such as the Usher Board, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, and the Finance Committee. She served on the Hospitality Committee for over 30 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two brothers, Louis Randolph (Cathy), Carl Randolph, and one sister, Katherine Taylor (Verner), all of Kansas City, MO; one daughter Lavonne "Bonnie" Stevenson (Darrell), one son, Leon "Lee Lee" James Stevenson, Jr.; 14 grandchildren and a host of great children, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
