Sandra Elizabeth Jordan was born at home, the 7th child born to Herbert and Gertrude Jordan Sr. o December 5, 1942.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Cynthia Sipes, two sisters, Gladys Watkins, Ella Mae Jordan; four brothers, Herbert Jordan Jr., Thomas Jordan, William Jordan, and Eugene Jordan and a niece, Stephanie Saunders and two nephews, Steven Saunders and Kevin Jordan.

Sandra was baptized at an early age at the St Stephens Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John R Williams.

She attended Booker T Washington Elementary School. She also attended Junior High School at R T Coles and Lincoln Jr.  In 1960, she graduated from Lincoln High School.

Sandra married her sweetheart Maurice Thurston on July 10, 1960.  To this union three children were born,

Sandra was employed at National Bella Hess in 1961-1963. She began working as United States Treasurer as a temporary worker in the late seventies.  She was hired permanently in the early eighties and retired after 28 years of dedicated service.

She joined the Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in 1970, under the leadership of the late Pastor James R. Glasgow. She served for many years on the Usher ministries where she was the treasurer. Sandra worked in many capacities at the church wherever needed.

Sandra, had a kind, sweet, and gentle spirit.  Always ready to lend a hand whatever the task maybe. Although her journey takes another road designed just for her, we'll always remember her words of wisdom and treasurer that spirit that was true.

She leaves behind to cherish these memories and more: her husband for over 60 years, Maurice; daughter, Deborah Vaughn (Albert); son, Eric Thurston (Margarite) Mesquite, Texas; son-in-law, Marvin Sipes; 2 grandsons, Anthony Vaughn and Eric Thurston Jr.; granddaughter, Reghan Thurston all of Mesquite, Texas; two sisters, Laura Mae Bolder and Beverly Saunders (Wilfred); brother, Richard Jordan (Celia); two sisters-in- law, Bettye Jordan and Barbara Tillman (James); brother-in-law, Steven Carson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Paradise Missionary family.

Services for Mrs. Thurston will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 19, 2021, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.  Burial Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the chapel.
